2026 Youth Media Literacy Camp
We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizer, Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia), for trusting our college and allowing us to co-organize this initiative to promote media literacy among secondary school students.Through activities such as thematic lectures, board games, role-playing mystery games (script-based games), studio experiences (radio and video), interviews, and mobile video filming and editing, students from various schools learned to distinguish between genuine and fake information. They reflected on how media shapes our perspectives and collaborated in teams to create their own media projects.
From verifying the authenticity of information to questioning *why* we believe it; from conducting their first interviews and filming sessions to presenting their work on stage—students discovered through hands-on experience that media is not merely something we consume daily; we can also be active users, creators, and disseminators of media.
In her address, CEO Jennifer Tan highlighted three key factors for verifying information: who wrote it, where the news originated, and whether other reliable media outlets have reported it. She emphasized that one should never immediately share content—especially material with sensational headlines designed to trigger emotions or incite anger, fear, or hatred—without first verifying it.
We hope that during this two-day camp, participants not only "played with media" and "understood media" but also "created media of our own." Beyond taking home a certificate of completion, we hope they leave with the ability to see the truth behind the information and a commitment to sharing information responsibly.
Finally, we thank the Dong Zong Student Affairs Department, the National Taiwan Normal University Media Literacy Project, as well as all lecturers, facilitators, staff members, participating schools, and students for making this two-day learning journey a rich experience filled with interaction, creativity, and critical thinking.
